Burmese is a band that is really into darkness, and not in an ironic or typical death metal way. But in a fully realized way that makes their more-than-a-decade of yet unrecognized genius a little sad for those who live and breathe underground metal. Burmese has had a long history of revolving members but has now stabilized with two drummers, guitar, bass, and female lead—something rather rare in this type of music, especially as you realize that she can scream and produce dark guttural sounds better than most dudes. Protect your ears and get ready to rock—or to stand there as grinding noisey metal assaults your brain.LAUREN ROSENTHAL
